It’s essential to verify the cost of an abortion beforehand. Many insurance plans only cover procedures for dependents, such as a spouse or child. Before scheduling, reach out to your insurance provider to understand what, if any, coverage is available for your girlfriend’s procedure.

Will Medicaid Pay?

Health First Colorado is the state’s Medicaid program. It only covers abortion in limited cases, such as:

  • A life-endangering condition for the woman
  • Rape
  • Incest

What Does An Abortion Cost?

The cost of an abortion procedure will first depend on the type. The least expensive is a medical abortion, which is FDA-approved through 10 weeks gestation (how far along your girlfriend’s pregnancy is). If she’s further along, the next procedure may be a surgical abortion.

The fees for abortion services vary among providers, so it’s advisable to inquire about the costs with each provider individually.

What Is The Process?

To start, your partner would schedule an office visit or a telemedicine appointment. During this visit, the provider will confirm her pregnancy and determine the gestational age to understand how far along she is.

Confirmation typically uses a pregnancy test that measures hCG levels and an ultrasound, which assesses the pregnancy’s gestation and location of the pregnancy. The ultrasound also checks the viability of the pregnancy or if there has been a miscarriage.

Following the abortion, it’s necessary to have a follow-up appointment. This appointment is to ensure the procedure is complete, as there is a risk of incomplete abortion with every procedure. Another pregnancy test or an ultrasound usually confirms the termination of the pregnancy.

Before Scheduling An Abortion

It’s critical to get all the information about the side effects and risks of abortion before seeking one out.

Colorado Springs Pregnancy Center does not perform or refer for abortions. Still, you can get a consultation at no personal cost to you, which includes pregnancy testing followed by an ultrasound.

We can then take you through each of your options: abortion, adoption, and parenting. We’ll have all the details to discuss the support we can provide for you.
