At the Colorado Springs Pregnancy Center, we understand that you may feel anxious and overwhelmed when you discover an unplanned pregnancy. Many women turn to abortion as the next step. Before scheduling an abortion, arrange for a medical screening. For your health and safety, you need more information about your pregnancy. Here are the four steps we recommend:

Step 1. Confirm you’re pregnant.

We offer no-cost lab-quality pregnancy tests performed by medical professionals. At-home pregnancy tests are not always reliable.

Our tests are over 99% accurate, so you can be confident you’re getting the correct result. You will receive the test results at your appointment.

Step 2. Make sure your pregnancy is viable (live baby).

Did you know up to 25% of known pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage? The number is likely higher because many women miscarry before realizing they’re pregnant.

You can still get a positive result on a pregnancy test and no longer be pregnant. It takes your body time to lose the pregnancy hormones.

We offer no-cost limited obstetric ultrasounds, which confirm the viability of your pregnancy. Ultrasound also reveals how many weeks pregnant you are (gestational age) and its location. Some pregnancies begin growing outside the uterus. This type of pregnancy is known as ectopic and requires immediate medical intervention. The abortion pill does not stop a pregnancy that is outside the uterus.

Avoid unnecessary costs, pain, and a potentially high-risk procedure if your pregnancy is not viable.

Step 3. Get tested and treated for STDs.

If you are sexually active, you could be at serious risk for an STI (sexually transmitted infection) or STD (sexually transmitted disease).

According to the Mayo Clinic, bacteria from infections like gonorrhea or chlamydia can enter your reproductive tract anytime the cervix “is disturbed,” like during an abortion.

The bacteria can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which can cause infertility. It’s vital to get tested and treated before your abortion. We can do that for you with:

  • No-Cost STD Testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HIV antibodies
  • No-Cost STD Treatment for chlamydia and gonorrhea

Step 4. Get The Necessary Education Beforehand

Once you have verified your pregnancy with pregnancy testing and an ultrasound, it’s time to discuss abortion procedures, side effects, and potential risks.

Part of your medical screening appointment will include a consultation with a nurse to discuss abortion procedures and risks, possible side effects and answer any questions you may have.

This Medical Screening appointment is free to you because we care about your health, safety, and wellbeing. We are here to help.

We do not perform or refer for abortions, but our staff and volunteers are always available to talk with you about your options.
