Could I Be Pregnant and Not Know It?
You might expect pregnancy to come with obvious signs, like morning sickness or a missed period. But sometimes, the changes are subtle enough that you barely notice them.

Every woman experiences pregnancy differently. Some notice changes soon after becoming pregnant, while others have few symptoms or do not recognize them as signs of pregnancy.
Possible early pregnancy symptoms include:
These symptoms can also occur for reasons unrelated to pregnancy, including hormonal fluctuations, stress, or illness. Some women experience only one or two symptoms, while others notice none at all.
For this reason, symptoms alone cannot confirm whether you are pregnant. A pregnancy test can help you determine whether your body is producing human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), the hormone pregnancy tests detect.
If pregnancy symptoms are mild or resemble changes you experience regularly, it can be easy to overlook them.
For example, you might misinterpret fatigue as the result of a busy week or attribute breast tenderness and bloating to premenstrual symptoms. If your periods are irregular, you may not immediately recognize that your period is late.
Bleeding during early pregnancy can also be confusing. Some women experience light spotting during early pregnancy and mistake it for a period. However, bleeding during early pregnancy can have several causes, and spotting alone cannot confirm pregnancy.
Another reason you might not realize you are pregnant is that you tested too early. A home pregnancy test may produce a false-negative result if your hCG levels are not yet high enough for the test to detect. The most accurate time to take a pregnancy test is one or two days after a missed period.
If you think you could be pregnant, you do not have to rely on symptoms to work out what is happening.
Taking advantage of medical-grade pregnancy testing at our center, followed by a first-trimester ultrasound if you qualify, can help confirm if you are pregnant and tell you how far along you are, where the pregnancy is located, and if cardiac activity is detected.
